The range of amino acids currently amenable to these biocatalysts includes:
- phenyl glycine, phenyl methyl glycine, homophenylalanine,
- substituted phenylalanine derivatives (-CH3 , -OCH3, halogen etc.
- heteroaromatic rings e.g. pyridine;
- alicyclic rings e.g. cyclopentane, cyclohexane;
- fused rings e.g. both variants of naphthyl alanine, tryptophan;
- aliphatic chains with ethylenic and acetylenic bonds – permitting further derivatisation.
